Another fun day on some Carolina granite. For what it lacks in quantity of routes, Big Rock Mountain more than makes up for in quality. Go check it out next time you're in the Upstate! Climbers featured are Eric Dudley, Nathan Brown, and Tom Caldwell.

*Update: Forgot to mention, a big congrats to Tom Caldwell on the FA of his new route, Rowans Leap (12a/b) (pictured in the last two portrait shots). Enjoyed capturing my first FA photos on your first FA climb. It may be short, but it packs a punch with some super bouldery, big throws to small, slopey eyebrows. I had a blast giving it a go and it should definitely be on your Big Rock tick list!

After a month of rain in what is usually the best time of year to climb in the deep south, the jet stream finally decided to dip and allow us a few days of sunny skies and crisp, dry air. What better place to celebrate then the Southeast face of Table Rock?! Despite the scary, runout climbing and heinous approach, Table Rock is a gem and holds some of the finest climbing in the South. Two days in a row of climbing, rigging and shooting left us sore and satisfied.

Congrats to Tom Caldwell for his onsite of an unnamed 5.11+ and to Tzlil Perahia for keeping his head screwed on straight on the runout Peelin Feelin (5.10++). It's always a treat to be climbing with these two, despite the added challenge of keeping the camera still while laughing my ass off at the constant joking and sarcasm. I hold you two responsible for all my blurry photos. : )

Southern Climbing: A Special Thing

Another outing with Tom Caldwell and Jean Paul Cane. The plan was to scout a small local crag to start planning a future shoot. Despite missing our lighting window, in the end we still came away with some halfway decent photos.

I've really come to love the part of Southern climbing that is exploring these tucked-away little crags scattered throughout the Southeast. What they lack in physical grandeur they more than make up for in natural beauty, rock quality, and a special intimacy that can only be found in those lush, Southern forests. In the spirit of this, Tom and I have begun working on a project to bring to light some of what we love about Southern climbing. Stay tuned!

Some shots from the past few months of traveling and shooting. I've taken a bit of a hiatus from shooting with the DSLR and have spent most of my time behind a good ol' iPhone camera. It's been a fun challenge to embrace the simplicity and limitations of a point n shoot. That being said, I'm stoked to have a better camera back in front of my face. Stay tuned-- new camera coming soon. Stoked!
